Captain R.M. Warren was a police officer on the Chicago Police Department.
Biography[]
Warren was the officer in charge of investigating a supposed Jack the Ripper copycat murdering prostitutes on the street of Chicago. However, Warren did not make much headway into the case until he had his men surround the Ripper; the Ripper proceeded to beat the officers senseless and kill some of them before escaping.
During a press conference, Carl Kolchak, who had witnessed this, questioned him on the killer’s seemingly superhuman strength and speed. Warren declines to answer these questions, though he admitted that Jane Plumm‘s paper had actually received a letter from the real killer, which was pulled from the paper as part of the investigation.
When Jolchak, investigating on his own, entered the Sultan’s Palace, a “massage parlor” where the Ripper had struck, officers Detective Cortazzo and Phil arrested him with charges of soliciting prostitution, and Warren used this as an opportunity to get Kolchak out of the at. Unfortunately for him, the Ripper struck again at the Sultan’s Palace (as Kolchak had predicted), and the police car Kolchak was one of the cars at the scene. The Ripper once again subdued any officer attempting to capture him, only to be severely injured by an electric fence.
Warren had the Ripper and Kolchak taken into custody, during which he destroyed Kolchak’s photos of the event. When Kolchak complained about this, Warren offered to allow Kolchak to take photos of the Ripper at his arraignment, but after Kolchak began attempting to convince Warren the Ripper was the original Jack the Ripper, who is an immortal being, Warren initially threatened Kolchak and then attempted to comfort him by telling him that the Ripper was imprisoned in maximum security, “and no one walks out of maximum security.” Seconds later, the Ripper used his superhuman strength to break out of his cell and escape. When Warren, several other officers, and Kolchak looked at his empty cell, Kolchak bolted off to stop the Ripper. After Kolchak killed the Ripper, inadvertently setting the Ripper’s house ablaze, Warren charged Kolchak with arson, though Kolchak’s superior Tony Vincenzo bailed him out of these charges.
